September 2025

Our annual ‘Music for Kids’ day in Greenhill Community Library will be on Saturday 25th October. This year it’s all about cats! 🐱

Come along any time between 10am and 3pm to hear the stories of ‘Puss in Boots’ and ‘The Lonely Kitten’ with music by Jonny. This year we’ll be joined by guest musician Martin Lightowler on oboe and cor anglais. You will be able to find out more about these instruments in the ‘Meet the Oboe’ session.

There will also be ‘come and try’, where you can have a go on an instrument, and plenty of crafts to enjoy.

The event is free to attend, so save the date and we hope to see you there! The event is aimed at 4- to 8-year-olds, but children of all ages are also welcome.

September 2024: Music for Kids Day and Autumn Concerts

After a quiet summer, we are back in action preparing for this term’s performances. A particular highlight will be our annual Music for Kids Day at Greenhill Community Library in Sheffield. This year’s event will be held on Saturday 26th October from 10am till 3pm. It will include the stories of Hansel and Gretel, The Enchanted Nightingale, and The Gingerbread Man, each set to music. There will be fun and games as Meena, the friendly witch, throws a party to celebrate her birthday. There will also be lots of crafts for the children to enjoy and a chance for them to have a go on a musical instrument.

It is a free event aimed at 4- to 8-year-olds, but children of all ages are welcome. No need to book – just come along and stay as long as you like.

Other concerts this autumn include Jonny playing in The Brigantes orchestra on Friday 18th October and Lucy leading Chesterfield Symphony Orchestra on Sunday 10th November.

March 2023: Trio concerts and music for children

We have both had a busy period of orchestral playing. Lucy has been performing with Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra and the Helix Ensemble, as well as her regular work leading Chesterfield Symphony Orchestra. Jonny is now principal cellist with Rotherham Symphony Orchestra and Sheffield Symphony Orchestra, and plays regularly with the Brigantes Orchestra. He also stood in as leader of the cellos for Chesterfield Symphony Orchestra, in their recent 40th-anniversary concert.

We are now preparing two trio programmes for concerts in the summer. The first will be with pianist Andrew Marples in Chesterfield Library in June, and the second will be with the organist Mark Swinton in Warwick. See the ‘concerts’ page for more details.

We are also continuing to take our musical story assemblies into local primary schools and are beginning work on a new story – Goldilocks and the Three Bears – which will form part of the next Music for Kids day in Greenhill Library in the autumn.

June 2022: Getting used to being busy again!

We have both had a busy few months, with lots of orchestral concerts in particular. Lucy is enjoying her work as leader of the Chesterfield Symphony Orchestra (next concert on Sunday 3rd July) and also played in an all-Elgar programme in Lincoln Cathedral, with Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra and Lincoln Choral Society. Jonny has had concerts with Sheffield Symphony Orchestra and the Brigantes Orchestra; the latter made its debut at Sheffield City Hall with a fabulous programme of jazz-inspired music.

As a duo we returned to Elder Yard Unitarian Chapel for a lunchtime concert in April. We are also continuing to develop our music for children, and recently went into Stradbroke Primary to perform our version of The Three Little Pigs for the KS1 children. They loved hearing us play, and one little boy gave the best guess we’ve had so far of what animal the hair on our bows comes from – a woolly mammoth!!

Keep checking our concerts page for details of our next performances.
